The Importance of Consistent Cat Visits: A Professional Pet Sitter’s Perspective

Feb 5, 2024 | Cat Visit | 0 comments

Pet owners often face the dilemma of deciding how often to have their beloved feline friends visited by a professional pet sitter when they are out of town.  We will explore the pros and cons from a professional pet sitters’ perspective, sharing the considerations that go into making this decision.

Reasons for Daily Visits:

  1. Consistency and Monitoring: Daily visits provide a consistent routine for cats, allowing the pet sitter to closely monitor their behavior, eating habits, and well-being.  This schedule helps to identify any potential health or behavioral issues promptly.  The cat can also more quickly form a relationship with the pet sitter knowing that they will be there to provide comfort and interaction on a regular basis.
  2. Social Interactions: Cats are social beings, although some of them may like you to think otherwise) and daily visits allow them the mental stimulation, physical activity and social interaction they need.  Pet sitters can offer playtime, petting, cuddling, brushing and companionship to help alleviate stress or loneliness your cat(s) may feel.
  3. Immediate Problem Solving: With daily visits, pet sitters can quickly address any issues that come up, be it problems with the home or the cats.  You cannot imagine the things that can go wrong with cats being left alone:  being accidently left inside a closed door or closest; not eating properly; knocking over food or water bowls; serious litter box accidents; turning on water faucets or burners on stoves.
  4. Medication Administration: If your cat takes medication daily visits are imperative.

Reasons for Every Other Day Visits:

  1. Cost Effective: From a financial standpoint, every other day visits can be much more economical for pet owners.
  2. Less Intrusive: Some cats are more independent and prefer a less intrusive environment.  Every other day visits can provide a balance of ensuring the cat’s well-being and respecting their preference for solitude.
  3. Less Stress for Cats: Cats can be sensitive to changes in their environment.  Having a pet sitter visit daily may be stressful to that type of feline.  Every other day visits would be less disruptive to their routine.

Professional pet sitters recommend daily visits to ensure the health, happiness, and safety of our feline companions.  And the policy at The Pet Sitter is that daily visits are required.  Yes, even if you have automatic feeders and/or water fountain, daily visits are required.  We’ve had instances where the automatic feeder gets filled with ants; the cats know how to open the top and feed themselves all day long; water fountains can be upended; and all these items are controlled by power sources.  The electricity can go out or batteries can run out, leaving your cats without access to their food and water.  Even powered litter boxes can malfunction leaving a real mess for the cats.

The health and well-being of your cats is our top priority, making every day visits our company policy that we hold firmly.   We hope this quick article helped outline the reasoning that we feel strongly about our policy.

Thank you.
